Bear Viewing at Great Alaska Bear Camp
3 days and 2 nights

Covering four million acres, the spectacular scenery on Lake Clark National Park stretches from the shores of Cook Inlet, across the Chigmit Mountains, to the tundra covered hills of the western interior. The Chigmits, where the Alaska and Aleutian Ranges meet, are an awesome, jagged array of mountains and glaciers which include two active volcanoes, Mt. Redoubt and Mt. Iliamna. In the shadow of these volcanos sits the Great Alaska Bear Camp, one of Alaska’s most ideally positioned bear viewing locations.

Travel Itinerary:

Day 1 - Flight from Anchorage to Great Alaska Bear Camp
Check into the lodge, and following a detailed orientation and salmon lunch, you’ll take a quick shuttle to the airstrip, then board the plane for the spectacular flight to Bear Camp, nestled between the mountains and the shoreline. Spend the day with your guide at several viewing positions. Accommodation at the camp is in custom “weather-port” cabin/tents for 2 on raised platforms with wooden floors, solid doors, propane heaters and twin beds and porta potties (showers are also available at the camp). The camp is surrounded by an electric fence for safety. Meals are hearty and are served family-style.

Day 2 - Great Alaska Bear Camp
Spend the day bear viewing with your naturalist guide. A life opportunity to view and photograph these magnificent animals in relative safety. Viewing is virtually assured, though not guaranteed.

Day 3 - Great Alaska Bear Camp to Anchorage
Time for a last view of the bears after breakfast before boarding your return flight to Anchorage. Transfer downtown. End.

Note: Reasonable fitness is required to embark/disembark from plane and for walking to and from the various bear viewing positions

Itinerary: June 1 - Sept. 10, 2009
