Travel Itinerary:
Departing
from Homer, board your 1 hour bush plane flight to Hallo Bay
Wilderness. As you approach Hallo Bay Wilderness, the pilot will fly
over the camp and surrounding terrain to give you a bird's eye
perspective on the immense and incredibly rich coastal ecosystem.
Following
the cabin check-in (for multiday guests) and a bear safety orientation
guests will be formed into two groups of 4-5 guests per guide. We will
walk at a leisurely and observing pace, stopping often at nearby salmon
streams, or food rich meadows depending on current bear feeding habits
at the time of your visit. When we come upon bears, we will stop,
observe and photograph them in a manner so as not to disturb them. Your
guide will answer any questions you may have and provide clear
instructions on appropriate behavior around the bears.
On
multiday tours, groups will walk to different locations. South of the
Camp where there is a very interesting tidal lagoon. The point
overlooking the lagoon affords good views of the area's glaciers,
volcanoes, brown bears, moose, shorebirds, waterfowl, and nesting bald
eagles. The lagoon is excellent bear habitat in all seasons, providing
succulent sedges from May to July, and salmon runs from July to
October.
After each day of hiking
and wildlife photography, the groups will hike back to the camp to
enjoy a wonderful, hearty, family style supper prepared by our chef.
After dinner, the guests can lounge around the galley discussing the
days adventures, or falling asleep in their cabins to the sounds of the
evening song birds, light breeze and the incoming tides. Return flight
to Homer.
