Northern Exposure Long Weekend
4 days / 3 nights

Travel to Dawson City, in the heart of the Yukon for a wonderful weekend of relaxing, winter fun. Experience Northern Lights, gambling in Canada’s oldest casino, eccentric local characters and unique winter festivals. At the height of the 1898 Klondike Goldrush, the greatest the world has ever seen, more than 50,000 including Jack London, Robert Service flocked to Dawson City, lured by the promise of gold. Now an eclectic and friendly mix of less than 2000 prospectors, miners, dance hall girls, artists and merchants, call the national historic site home. Dawson City offers a wonderfully relaxing, old-fashioned weekend getaway that is perfect for couples or families.

Travel Itinerary:

Day 01 (Thurs) Whitehorse
Arrive Whitehorse Airport, transfer downtown. Evening free to explore the Yukon’s capital city. Stroll the riverfront or drop by the SS Klondike National Historic Site. The impressive paddle-wheeler is the heart of the city. The Log Cabin Skyscraper, the Old Log Church, Main Street shops and gallerties, and MacBride Museum are all good sightseeing stops. Hotel: High Country Inn

Day 02 (Fri) Dawson City (562km)
Transfer to rental station, pick-up rental vehicle. Your route takes you along the Klondike Highway through the expansive Yukon interior, and passes through the villages of Carmacks, Pelly Crossing, Stewart Crossing.  Visit Diamond Tooth Gerties Casino this evening, Canada’s oldest, and try your hand at black jack, roulette, or Texas Hold-em poker. On your walk home, check the sky for the Northern Lights that are often visible over the river. Hotel: Bombay Peggy’s Inn and Pub or Aurora Inn.

Days 3 (Sat) Dawson City
Day free to tour the town, or travel north on the famous Dempster Highway, Canada's only to cross the Arctic Circle.  Tombstone Territorial Park is abut an hour away by road and offers stunning mountain views and great snowshowing.  Or make a day of it and travel further north to the Arctic Circle before returning to Dawson in the evening.  After dinner, visit Diamond Took Gerties once again, or enjoy the company of new friends at one of Dawson’s nightspots. Keep an eye open for Northern Lights on your stroll home.

Days 4 (Sun)
Time to say goodbye to the Klondike capital and depart to Whitehorse along the Klondike Highway (approximate driving time is 6 hours). Return rental car on arrival, and transfer to the airport for your southbound flights home. End.

Optional Itinerary: Travel to Dawson City by Air:

Day 01 (Thurs) Whitehorse.
Day 02 (Fri) Flight from Whitehorse to Dawson City, with possible views of Mt. Logan (tallest in Canada) to the east.
Day 03/04 (Sat/Sun) Dawson City, activities per itinerary above, 1 additional hotel overnight Dawson City.
Day 05 (Mon) Flight from Dawson City to Whitehorse, with southbound connections.
