Yukon Winter Activity Sampler
5 days / 4 nights

The ideal tour for those wishing to experience a wide variety of Yukon winter activities in a short period of time. On this tour, you’ll travel the 1000 Mile Yukon Quest sled dog race trail by snowmobile, tread lightly through the forest on snowshoe and ski, and you’ll have the opportunity to try the unique Northern sport of ice fishing while staying at a comfortable lodge on the Yukon Quest trail accessible only by snowmobile. The nights are spent relaxing around the wood stove, watching for Northern Lights and luxuriating in the wood fired sauna. Perfect for families.

Travel Itinerary:

Day 01 Whitehorse - Coghlan Lake Lodge
Transfer to the snowmbiling staging area, board snowmobiles and depart along the Yukon Quest Trail. There will be numerous opportunities to stop and take in the scenery. We will make a lunch stop and enjoy hot food and drinks to stay comfortable. Early afternoon, we arrive at the Lodge that will be our home for the night. Together, we will get the fire going, drill a hole into the ice on Coghlan Lake for water and prepare the Lodge for the night. If time and daylight permits, we can go and explore the area around the Lodge, too. Tonight’s hearty, northern dinner will be prepared and enjoyed together and your guide will be happy to share knowledge and stories about the Yukon. After dinner, we will get the sauna ready and for a real northern experience, roll in the snow! Northern Lights viewing this evening.

Day 02 Coghlan Lake Lodge
Today can be filled with a variety of winter activities. Let us know if you are interested in snowshoeing or ice fishing and we will plan the day accordingly. There are numerous trails and a million ways to explore the surroundings. On all our trips, we try to combine the fun with a learning experience and will introduce you to the Yukon’s wildlife, how to read tracks, winter safety and winter camping experiences. We can show you how to build an emergency shelter in the snow and how to make a fire. All this is part of winter living and a ton of fun! After the day spent outside, you will appreciate the comforts of the Lodge and enjoy a good meal together. If we are lucky, we will be able to catch the Northern Lights tonight!

Day 03 Coghlan Lake Lodge
Today, we will introduce you to the sport of ice fishing. The day will start with a short snowmobile ride North on the Yukon Quest trail towards Frank Lake. Along the way we’ll have time to stop at picturesque Coghlan Creek. We’ll spend the day at Frank Lake. A fire will keep us warm while waiting for the big catch. With a little bit of luck, we’ll catch one or 2 and cook the ‘catch of the day’ right on site. You will be surprised how tasty fish caught fresh is! In the late afternoon, we will head back to our base camp and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Day 04 Coghlan Lake Lodge
We’ll spend the day navigating the snowmobile trails today. We’ll head South on the original Yukon Quest trail to the shores of Lake Laberge. On the way we will pass through an area devastated by a forest fire in 1999 which created a very special landscape. There are some beaver lodges to investigate along the way. The trail leads you through forest trails, over small lakes and open fields. We will have lunch on the shores of Lake Laberge before returning to the comfort of the Lodge.

Day 05 Whitehorse
This morning, we’ll break camp and start the journey back to civilization. On our trip back we will take our time to enjoy the trail and the scenery, check out animal tracks and have a nice lunch stop. We’ll rejoin our transfer vehicles and return to Whitehorse in the late afternoon. Tour ends on arrival.
